Surface Preparation (The Critical Step for Success)

Maximum performance cannot be expected from an epoxy system without proper surface preparation.

The substrate should meet the following requirements:

  • Concrete compressive strength ≥ 25 N/mm²
  • Pull-off strength ≥ 1.5 N/mm²
  • Free from oil, curing compounds, coatings, and loose particles
  • Cement laitance must be removed by mechanical methods
  • Dust must be completely removed using an industrial vacuum cleaner
  • Surface moisture must be checked and rising damp must not be present

Mixing and Application Recommendations

  • Component A should be mixed using a low-speed mixer (300–400 rpm).
  • Component B is then added and mixed for at least 3 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is achieved.
  • Quartz sand or suitable fillers can be added if required.
  • Air entrainment should be minimized during mixing.

Primer application:
Apply using a roller or squeegee in a cross pattern. A continuous, pore-free film should be achieved.

Leveling/intermediate layer:
Spread with a notched trowel and finish with a roller.

Epoxy mortar application:
Apply onto a “tacky” bonding layer, compact with a trowel, and level the surface.

Tools should be cleaned with solvent before the material begins to cure.

Limitations

  • Protect the applied surface from moisture and condensation during the first 24 hours.
