Joint Design and Surface Preparation

Joint Width and Depth

  • Joint width must be at least four times the anticipated movement and not less than 6 mm.

Recommended sealant depths:

  • Up to 15 mm width: sealant depth = joint width
  • 15–25 mm width: sealant depth = 80% of joint width
  • Greater than 25 mm width: sealant depth = 25 mm

Surface Preparation

  • Joints must be clean, dry, free of oil, and free from old sealant residues.
  • Damaged edges should be repaired and external corners rounded.
  • A backer rod or backing material (closed-cell polyethylene foam) must be installed.

Primer Application

  • Both horizontal and vertical joint surfaces should be primed with weber.prim PS before sealant application.

Application Conditions

  • Surface and ambient temperature: +5°C to +30°C
  • Do not apply on damp surfaces, in excessively hot conditions, or where freezing conditions may occur.

Application Procedure

Mixing

  1. Mix Component A for 2–3 minutes using a low-speed mixer.
  2. Add Component B and continue mixing for an additional 3–5 minutes.
  3. Do not use material that has exceeded its pot life.

Sealant Application

  • Fill the mixed material into a caulking gun or apply using a spatula.
  • Place the sealant into the joint over the backing material without leaving voids.
  • Finish and smooth the surface using a spatula.

Cleaning

  • All tools should be cleaned with synthetic thinner before the sealant hardens.
